Spatial Analyses:

The final Map was created in Edrisi using the MCE wizzard which produced a Map with values ranging from 0 to 255 and then the 255 values were limited to 5 categories, thus producing a map showing areas that are most suitable to not suitable.

Description

Landuse

Constraint:  Water Bodies, Conifer Forest and Previously Developed areas

Landuse criteria is a Constraint as we are not interested in options in water, conifer forest or developed areas due to cost, environmental protection and conflict of interest.

Water

Constraint- 20 metre buffer

We buffered the minimum 15 meters, plus 5 extra meters around any reservoirs (water) due to Langley Township building requirements (www.tol.ca).

Slope

Monotonically Decreasing, Linear, Control Points 200-255

.35

To keep building costs down we looked at “optimum” areas of less the 15 degrees slope and monotonically decreasing in “optimum” value as one moves away.  It is less costly to build with less then a 15% slope.

Road

Monotonically decreasing, Linear, Control Points 0-150

.4

Road access is very important as people prefer to drive up to the Café or stop for coffee before work, as well as for increased visibility.

Soil

Monotonically decreasing, Sigmoidal, control points 0-100

.25

Soil is an important factor for ease of building and for septic field drainage (Sera).
